In House Fabrication and Machining

CLIENT CHALLENGE

A international oilfield equipment supply company had contracted ITC for the assembly and test of a number of new design control panels. There was an ambitious delivery schedule delivery to a Tier 1 service company at a number of different global locations.
There was very limited slack in the schedule for any rework to this new and untested design. Unfortunately, and as normal, there was a number of component manufacturing and interference fit issues with the new design.

THE SOLUTION

ITC worked in a staggered parallel assembly schedule for the various skids and as issues were encountered they were documented and a solution identified by ITC engineering group. These were communicated back to the client for approval prior to the modifications or new parts being made in-house by ITC fabrication and machining division. This allowed for prompt and timely modifications or alternative parts which avoided any significant impact on the delivery schedule. The revisions were documented and feedback to equipment manufacturer so they could update their drawing for future manufacturing of these skids. The equipment was needed onsite quickly and sourcing the appropriate bushing and slips in the required time frame was not possible, ITC solution was to remove the integrated back-saver system for the slips and use the top plates from a wellhead tension table to support the rig pipe elevators. In addition, the client wanted to use the rigs HPU to operate the jack, this required a new control stand to be made to interface with the HPU. A pressure limiting circuit was also included to avoid potentially overloading the rig substructure.

THE RESULTS

All of the new design build skids were successfully assembled and fully function tested within the required assembly schedule and delivered on time to the Tier 1 provider. The design revisions were fully documented and incorporated into the manufacturing design drawing. The project lead commended ITC staff on their efforts.

“I would like to thank the ITC staff working on this project for their efforts and proactive approach. There is no doubt that ability to make the necessary changes in house allowed this project to stay on track. The quality of the finished product was excellent”.
